Nick Walker Music

From Music to TV (and Back)

From the first time he heard the Beatles on the radio, Nick knew he wanted to sing like them. In his early teens he put together a band to play their songs at parties and talent shows. Later Nick traveled the country playing in rock clubs, even opening for the Marshall Tucker Band, and once sharing a set with the legendary Gregg Allman.

Back at college, he discovered that he could get paid to play records, nabbing a part-time job as a radio disc jockey in his university town. Upon graduation he continued in broadcasting, working in television newsrooms in Austin, Wichita, and then Seattle.

After going back to school to study meteorology, Nick went national, appearing on The Weather Channel and gaining a reputation as "The Weather Dude"— writing, recording and performing weather songs for kids. Occasionally he did weather reports for NBC and CBS, and even showed up in cameos on "Late Night with David Letterman" (see video), the "Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live."  In the  final episode of “The Gilmore Girls,” Sally Struthers’ character Babette confessed that she is “a Nick Walker fan” (see video).

Now retired from television, Nick concentrates on awakening emotions and memories through the songs he grew up with, transporting older audiences back to their childhoods, and introducing younger people to some of the most enduring music ever created. Click here to see some examples.
